Empire Strikes Again!

Setauket, NY – After a slow start to their 2012 campaign, Empire/Romanelli Bros. rallied to win their second consecutive Spring Training series championship, and in the process, take the lead in the race to the Metro Super Series  Standings.

Empire had to stave off a tough Short Bus/TYJA squad, who had already defeated Empire twice previously this season, in the “if” game, after Short Bus took the first game of the finals.    Empire showed why they are the class of the “D” division in 2012 and have high hopes for a serious run towards a “D” world championship this season.  With two hard fought one run wins over Dirty Laundry/Ken Korthright Agency and Iced/TYJA respectively, Empire hammered the tourney’s #1 seed Faddy Malone’s/Worth/Elite 26-9 in the winner’s bracket final.

Short Bus also has grand designs in 2012, with 4 tournament championships already under their belt, Short Bus has shown that they are the cream of the crop in “E” this season and are proving stiff competition for “D” teams as well.  After starting the day slow with a loss to AMC/TYJA, Short Bus warmed up with victories over Iced/TYJA and Dirty Laundry/Ken Korthright as well, before facing off with Faddy Malone’s in the Loser bracket finals.  Avenging an early season loss, Short Bus managed to outlast Faddy Malone’s in an epic offensive battle with the final score 34-27.

In game 1 of the finals, Empire seemed to feel the affects of the cooler weather and a one game layoff, as Short Bus managed a 17-10 victory setting up the “if” game.  But Empire wouldn’t be denied, as their bats warmed up and their confidence built, leading them to a decisive 19-11 victory and a repeat as Spring Training Champions.
